In time I acquired my first car, a Renault 9.  Amazingly, this car was voted as Car of the Year in 1982, which seems amazing given that the car had no performance, looked ridiculous and had suspension which was so soft that even slow cornering made you feel the car was about to topple over.  Still, I loved it.

I progressed from this through to a Ford Sierra (which was stolen), a Peugeot 309, a Rover 420, a SEAT Toledo TDi, a Ford Focus, a Vauxhall Vectra V6, a Vauxhall Astra 1.9 CDTi, Vectra 2.8 turbo, through to the Audi that I currently own.  The SEAT changed my views entirely on diesels - with the help of a bit of engine tweaking via a new engine management chip (upgrades from 110 BHP to 135 BHP), the car had lively performance and still did 50 mpg.  This is the main reason why I sold my first Vectra and went back to diesel motoring.  The lure of a big V6 engine eventually brought me back to petrol motoring, though.  Now I'm back to diesel motoring again!
