The White House

( HomeWashington → Ellipse )

The Ellipse (which is a colloquial name for the President’s Park South) lies south of the White House, and covers an area of about 52 acres.  The ellipse is open to the public, and is the scene of many team sports and other activities, especially at the weekend.  The history of the Ellipse goes back to the 19th century, with construction work beginning in 1867.

The ellipse is essentially open greenery in a big city

Sports and games are played on the Ellipse

With a visitor and refreshment centre for when you need it

Needless to say, this is a popular point for photography!

You can walk around the edge of the Ellipse if playing sport doesn't suit you
