The Wittenham Clumps (also called the Sinodun Hills) are a couple of small hills, located about 5 miles from Didcot.  They are grassed on the sides but have “clumps” of beech trees on the top, hence the colloquial name.  The Clumps are an extremely popular local attraction for walkers, and they provide some stunning views over the South Oxfordshire countryside.  One of the Clumps (Castle Hill) has a hill fort on it, showing that local tribes at one time used the Clumps as a retreat in times of trouble.
