The Fens are a region in Eastern England that are very flat and very low compared to sea level (some areas are below sea level). For this reason, they are subject to periodic flooding, though modern drainage systems mitigate against this. In former times, some regions were permanently flooded. |
The Fens are noted for being flat
And many of the roads across the Fens are long and straight
The roads are elevated from the surrounding countryside
The Fens get as much bad weather as the rest of England!
