Lynmouth is a village on Exmoor that lies at the bottom of a gorge (a valley carved by a river), with the town of Lynton at the top of the gorge.  Lynmouth sits right on the coast and on a good day you can see over to Wales, but unfortunately the beaches are rather stony, but that doesn’t stop a few brave folk from sun-bathing.  Lynmouth also has some very nice outdoor coffee shops, and plenty of souvenir shops for tourists.  In 1952, a serious flood of the river Lyn (which runs through the town) was responsible for killing 34 residents.
