Porlock is a small village on the eastern side of Exmoor, and is connected to Lynmouth (10 miles away) via a very scenic road, from which you can get some wonderful views of Exmoor and the coast.  Porlock is also home to Porlock Hill, which has very steep gradients (1 in 4) and hairpin bends.  It is one of the steepest main roads in Europe and is a good test of a car!  Porlock also has some very pleasant pubs, and in Christmas 2003 my family and me had Christmas lunch at the Castle Hotel.  A very memorable experience.
