The Sanctuary was a timber shrine that was built over 5,000 years ago, and which was rebuilt and enlarged several times over the following 1,000 years. It is located at Overton Hill, and was at one time linked to the Avebury Stone Circle. The Sanctuary was used for ceremonial purposes. |
