Silbury Hill is undoubtedly one of the more mysterious monuments in England, as in spite of a number of excavations, no-one seems quite sure why it was built!  It is located about ½ mile from the Avebury stones, and is about 40 m high and has a base diameter of about 170 m.  It is believed that Silbury Hill was built in two phases, the first phase starting in around 2700 BC.
