Thirlmere is a reservoir in the central Lake District, developed in the 1880's from two smaller lakes to provide an enhanced water supply to industrial Manchester. In effect, the reservoir is the result of a water level rise of about 50 feet at the location of the reservoir, compared with the original water levels there. |
