Stonehenge

( HomePhotos → Woodhenge )

Woodhenge is believed to be a wooden equivalent of Stonehenge – that is, instead of having an arrangement of stones, it had wooden structures instead.  Woodhenge dates from around 2300 BC.  Interestingly, Woodhenge was only discovered in the early 20th century.  While not as immediately impressive as Stonehenge, the possibility of a wooden companion to Stonehenge is nevertheless intriguing.

Woodhenge is located in a rather unpretentious position, just off the main road to Salisbury

The wooden posts mark the locations where the original wood structures existed
