I pay my bills by working as a scientist in the nuclear industry.  As I'm getting older, I'm beginning to realise that the science that gives me so much pleasure in my career is fairly inaccessible to the majority of people.  In these pages I try to give a flavour of what science is all about, hopefully in a form that is useful to the intelligent non-scientist.

Presented here are a series of articles about subjects that we have probably all heard about, but which perhaps we don't really understand.  This is not to imply any sort of ignorance, but perhaps our aptitudes are for things other than scientific reasoning or analysis.  For my part, I am hopeless when it comes to things artistic, and I am very jealous of people who can draw or paint things!  But I do have some aptitude for science, and hopefully through these articles I can convey to you the ideas associated with things that you may have heard of, but which are as mysterious to you as artistry is to me!
